Mr.Ashok Kumar C Manoli, the State’s IT-BT Secretary, shares some thoughts on the city as a knowledge hub and outlook for this sector,
* The State has embarked upon a very ambitious IT project – ITIR, proposed to be developed in the vicinity of Bangalore International Airport near Devanahalli (where Edifice builders flagship project Almond Tree and Villa valley exits).
* The ITIR will be an integrated IT city where IT and ITeS, BPO and electronic hardware units would be set up. The ITIR will be set up in a geographical area of about 40 sq km covering over 10,000 acres of land. It will also have the necessary social infrastructure.
* Physical infrastructure is being provided with financial support of the Government of India. This project is expected to bring in investment of over Rs one lakh crores, creating about one million jobs.
* The ITIR project has been submitted to the Government of India for its clearance. This was one of the major attractions at the Global Investors’ Meet.
*Bangalore is the fourth best technology hub in the world. Developed economies such as the US, Europe, Israel, and Japan seek to have bilateral cooperation set-ups with Karnataka.
*Bangalore is perhaps the hottest knowledge hub in the hemisphere. There are plenty of business and job opportunities. Out of 2.2 million direct IT jobs, Bangalore alone accounts for six lakhs.
*The industry estimates indicate that about 90,000 jobs are likely to be created in the current fiscal.
